Bereavement Support

We hope to help you through the stages of dealing with the estate, following the loss of a loved one.

We’re here to help

Dealing with finances following the loss of someone close to you can be overwhelming.

We want to do all we can to help you. That’s why we’ve put together this information to help you understand how we deal with the accounts we hold, how to manage the estate and help answer any immediate questions you have.

What we’ll need

When notifying us regarding your loss we will ask you for the following information. To help us deal with everything as promptly as possible it would help if you have this information to hand, but don’t worry if you don’t have it all right away:

  • Your name and contact details
  • Suitable identification for you. Please see Useful Information for what we can accept
  • The original death certificate or certified copy
  • The original Will or certified copy
  • Information about any items held in safe custody with us
  • The original Certificate of Confirmation/Grant of Probate/Letters of Administration or certified copy
  • All cards (debit and credit), cheque books and passbooks
  • If you are appointing a solicitor, details of the firm

We will make copies of any documentation you provide to us and return the originals to you.

Locating the Will

A Will provides details of the named beneficiaries and the executors who deal with the administration of the estate. If there is a Will, it is important that you provide this to us, so that we can confirm who the executors are.

If there is no Will then the estate is classed as ‘intestate’ and the law will determine who inherits the estate. To find out more please visit: (link opens in a new tab).
