The explosion in social media was the subject of a second joint event at Yorkshire Bank in Nottingham.
Rob Wilmot from Nottingham-based digital, PR and marketing agency BCS returned to Yorkshire Bank’s Financial Solutions Centre (FSC) following the success of his presentation on the benefits of using LinkedIn earlier this year.
Rob co-founded Freeserve in 1998 before leaving three years later after seeing the venture through flotation and a £1.6 billion sale.
He was invited back to talk to a mixture of accountants, solicitors and businesses about the opportunities afforded from social and on-line networks such as Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn.
Robin Kirkwood, business banking partner at Yorkshire Bank’s FSC in Castle Meadow Road, who hosted the evening, said Rob gave practical advice on the social media phenomenon which could make a real difference to business.
“It is important to appreciate and harness the power of social networks, whilst using them intelligently,” he said.
“Rob used plain English to cut through the hype to offer advice on how and why you should embrace social media, as well as avoiding possible pitfalls.
“It has become a different way of conducting business and Rob’s presentation also focused on encouraging everyone to embrace it - there is nothing to be afraid of.
“As always, it was a thought-provoking session and everyone left armed with more knowledge than they had beforehand.”
