World Cup winner Mike Catt passed on valuable coaching and business advice to rugby-mad students at a Northampton school.
The Yorkshire Bank ambassador gave two training sessions to year seven and ten pupils at Northampton School for Boys in Billing Road, Northampton.
He then answered questions from an inquisitive audience in a 30-minute session with around 30 youngsters centred on his playing career at national and international level including the pinnacle when England defeated Australia to win the World Cup in 2003 as well as passing on advice on the importance of teamwork and learning new skills in the world of work.
Mike, who is now a coach at former club London Irish, then attended a networking lunch at Yorkshire Bank’s Financial Solutions Centre in Waterside Way, Northampton.
Thirty two current and potential customers from Northampton’s business community were invited to hear his talk called “Playing the right team”.
Brian Colquhoun, regional director at Yorkshire Bank, said Mike’s knowledge and enthusiasm for the sport had been reciprocated by the students on the training field.
“Mike spent 45 minutes with each year group passing on invaluable advice and tips to the boys and they really enjoyed it,” he said.
“Their love of the sport was apparent not only during the training but in a question and answer session afterwards.
“Mike then met a variety of Yorkshire Bank customers ranging from accountants and solicitors to lawyers and chartered surveyors.
“He discussed the importance of team work in the business and sporting worlds and making sure each colleague is given a role which suits his or her strengths as well as the value of working hard and receiving the right training to improve your skill set.
“Mike also gave an overview of his career as well as giving his thoughts and insights into the recent World Cup in New Zealand. It was a really interesting session.”
