Care home expansion creates new jobs with support from Yorkshire Bank

15th August 2013

A popular Lancashire residential care home is expanding its services and creating new jobs with support from Yorkshire Bank.

The Bakewells, Bolton, has received a substantial funding package from Yorkshire Bank in order to build an extension incorporating a new eight-bed specialist dementia unit. Once complete, the new facility will support the creation of 20 new jobs.

The deal was facilitated by Dave Hunt, business development manager at Yorkshire Bank’s Business and Private Banking Centre in Bolton.

Located in a leafy suburb of Bolton, The Bakewells is run by Helen and Andy Morgan, who acquired the business 14 years ago. Both are actively involved in the Bolton Association of Registered Care Homes, which promotes care home provision locally.

The 25-bed care home, which is set in extensive private grounds, takes its name from the original family that owned the property, and who manufactured tins for the famous Bakewell tarts. Well-known locally for its high standard of accommodation and quality services, the home enjoys exceptionally high occupancy rates.

The business employs a team of 30 staff, with a further 20 employees to be recruited following the completion of the extension. Day and respite care services are available in addition to residential care.

Andy Morgan, business director of The Bakewells, said: “We are delighted that Yorkshire Bank is supporting our plans for growth.

“By adding a dementia unit we will now be able to care for residents who at present must transfer to a specialist provider as their health declines. Our brand new, purpose-built facilities will also allow us to offer the very highest standards in dementia care.

“While Yorkshire Bank’s flexible and affordable funding package was a key factor in our decision to switch from our previous providers, we were also impressed by its strong commitment to supporting local businesses.

“We have already established a good relationship with Yorkshire Bank staff and we look forward to developing the business with their continued help and expertise.”

Derek Breingan, Yorkshire’s Bank’s head of healthcare, said: “The Bakewells is a successful, well-operated independent care home, which is renowned locally for its high standards of personal care.

“As the population ages, dementia and similar age-related illnesses will also increase. Investing in specialist facilities will ensure that The Bakewells is ready to meet the growing demand for dementia care.”
