World Cup winner helps breathe new life into Sheffield Scout hall

22nd May 2014

A former British and Irish Lion and member of England’s 2003 Rugby World Cup winning squad has lent his support to a community drive to transform a rundown Scout hall in Sheffield. The event, part of Yorkshire Bank’s Business Week, formed part of their commitment to ‘Give and Gain Day’ which sees businesses dedicate their time to volunteering.

Mike Catt, the current England attacking skills coach, who was part of the British and Irish Lions squad in 1997 and 2001, used his experience to inspire members of the 231st Shiregreen Scout Group on Friday 16 May. More than 150 employees from local businesses, including 20 from Yorkshire Bank, helped to renovate the building for community use in a single day.

Kevin Elliott, Head of Yorkshire Bank’s Business and Private Banking Centre in Sheffield said:

“The work we do in the community is just as important as our day-to-day business and we actively encourage our staff to get involved in inspirational projects like this.
“By investing a little of our time we are helping to leave a lasting legacy in the communities in which we work.

“Through Business Week we are bringing hundreds of local businesses together to learn from them and to provide solutions to help achieve sustainable growth.”

Business Week is running from 12th – 16th May at the banks’ network of 44 Business & Private Banking Centres across the UK host more than 250 events for local companies, including Leeds, York, Hull, and Doncaster.

As growth and confidence continue to emerge in the UK economy, Business Week aims to help businesses take advantage and build for the future. The week includes sessions offering business and financial advice, networking opportunities, and discussions on key issues affecting local areas and industry sectors.
