Yorkshire Bank staff lend a hand at Barnsley Hospice

Eleven hardy Yorkshire Bank staff recently rolled up their sleeves to undertake voluntary work at a hospice in Barnsley.

The team, from Yorkshire Bank's Sheffield Business and Private Banking Centre, spent a day at the Barnsley Hospice to help repaint the garden fences and carry out other important maintenance jobs.

The Bank has a special relationship with the hospice and alongside providing general banking services for the charity, every year volunteers help renovate the hospice grounds to help provide an attractive space for patients and visitors to enjoy.

Opened in 1985, Barnsley Hospice is a charity that provides specialist palliative care and support to hundreds of local people and their families each year. Their main priority is to achieve the best possible quality of life for patients with a life limiting illness, whilst supporting their families, during the period of illness and bereavement.

The hospice relies on the support and generosity of its supporters in the local community to raise £2.1m of its £3.8m running costs each year.

Yorkshire Bank business centre associate, Sue Fletcher, was among the team taking part in the voluntary session.

Sue said:

"Barnsley Hospice provides an invaluable service to the local community and we're never short of volunteers to lend a hand. The hospice has been a customer of the Bank for a number of years now and it's great to be able to make a contribution to such a worthy cause."

Steve Field, Barnsley Hospice Estates Manager said: "We are extremely grateful to Yorkshire Bank for their support. Their help means we can keep the fences and outside furniture maintained and in good condition so our patients and their families can enjoy being outside. With Yorkshire Bank's support we were able to complete these maintenance jobs quickly while saving funds for the hospice."
