Car accidents

  1. Don’t drive away from the scene of the accident.
  2. Don’t accept blame, even if the other driver tries to make you.
  3. Collect as much information as possible - names, phone numbers and addresses of drivers/pedestrians involved.
  4. Collect the details of any witnesses. The more evidence you have the better.
  5. Note the number of passengers in the car at the time of the accident.
  6. Note the time and the place where the accident happened.
  7. Write a short description of how the accident happened.
  8. If you can, take a photograph. Try to get the other driver’s number plate in the photo.
  9. If the other driver won’t give you their personal or insurance details, call the police. They may not have insurance.
  10. If the police are already there, take a note of the officer’s name and badge number.
