Intellectual Property Law firm secures funding to expand renewals specialism

Scott & York IP Law is developing its specialist Renewals service for intellectual property rights, after securing a six-figure funding package from Clydesdale Bank.

The firm merged with Cleveland IP on 1 April and will now be known as Cleveland Scott York Following the merger, the company will be expanding the Renewals arm of their business which is known as Cleveland Scott Renewals LLP and specialises in helping businesses to protect their intellectual property rights, including patents, trademarks and designs. The merged business will have offices in London, St Albans, Reading and Brussels.

The Renewals business focuses on the management of renewal fees, which companies owe to their governments at periodic intervals, in order to maintain their intellectual property rights. The Renewals arm of the business mainly serves clients in the industrial and engineering sectors.

The next phase of growth

Accelerated expansion

Company origins

Scott & York LLP was founded in 1977 by Andrew Mackenzie and Jonathan Midgley, from Scotland and Yorkshire respectively – the inspiration behind the name of the business. Scott & York Renewals LLP was established in 2009, and Cleveland IP and Scott & York IP Law merged on 1 April 2017. The combined firm is known as Cleveland Scott & York.
