For simple, everyday banking

The Business Current Account from Clydesdale Bank is designed for the basic management of your everyday business banking. It offers the full services of a current account, with the option of an agreed overdraft. All facilities are subject to status and applicants must be aged 18 or over. Only available to business customers. Terms and conditions apply.

  • Standard charges and interest rates can be found in the interest rates and charges section. Speak to a business banking contact for more details
  • Debit interest applied to overdrawn amounts
  • No credit interest applied
  • Debit interest calculated daily and applied monthly
  • Not available to personal customers
  • Full terms and conditions are available on request

*Offer applies to new small business banking customers with a turnover of less than £2 million switching their main business current account or start ups opening first account within 12 months of beginning trading. No charges apply to cash or cheque deposits and withdrawals, Direct Debits or other automated transactions. Borrowing facilities up to £250,000 available subject to status, fees apply. Charges for “additional services” and “borrowing charges” are not part of the free banking offer and are highlighted in our business banking tariff. Cash limit (paid in, paid out or exchanged) of £250,000 per annum. At the end of the free banking period, you will move to our business banking tariff.

Changes to Business Debit Card

We are launching a new Business Debit Mastercard in September 2018.

Changes to be aware of if you open a Business Account with us. We will be sending you a new Debit Mastercard for your Business Account by 12th October 2018. Your card will have a brand new design and will replace the one you currently use. Your PIN, terms and conditions, fees and charges will all stay the same.

What’s changing?

Aside from the design, the new card offers you these features (although you don’t have to use them):

  • Withdraw up to £700 a day from ATMs*
  • Contactless Technology – you won’t need to use your PIN for purchases up to £30 when you’re out and about*
  • International Purchase Limit is up to £10,000 a day*

You can also make use of the following features on the new card:

  • Pay using your phone – this works with Apple Pay™ and Google Pay™
  • Easily pay in money – you can do this at branch counters and Deposit ATMs in selected branches (limits apply)
What happens next?

You should start using your new Business Debit Mastercard as soon as you receive it. We’ll tell you the date your existing card will stop working when we send you the new card.

What do you need to do?

As your 16-digit card number will change, there are a few actions you should take.

  • Update recurring and online payments
    You’ll need to update your card details for payments you have set up using your existing card, such as subscriptions, PayPal and websites where you’ve saved your card details. Your direct debits and standing orders won’t be affected because they only use your account number and sort code, which will stay the same.
  • Re-register for Mastercard SecureCode™
    This extra layer of security helps you shop safely online and you’ll need to register this new card. You can do this from our dedicated page.
  • Set up Apple Pay™ and Google Pay™
    If you want to use your mobile phone to make purchases, you will need to register your new debit card.
  • Destroy your old card
    Remember to do this as soon as you receive your new one.

Protecting your money

Your eligible deposits with Clydesdale Bank PLC are protected up to a total of £85,000 by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme, the UK’s deposit guarantee scheme.

This limit is applied to the total of any deposits you have with the following: Clydesdale Bank and Yorkshire Bank. Any total deposits you hold above the limit between these brands are unlikely to be covered.
