New round of funding for family-run gelateria

Mieles Gelateria Ltd of Inverness has received £80,000 in the latest round of funding from Clydesdale Bank. The family-run business, operated by Roberto and Nicola Miele and their two sons David and Michael, opened a new gelateria in Inverness in December 2016.

The next step

Despite the seasonal nature of the product, the shop has been a big success and they are now running at capacity from their initial leased premises. This deal will help the company to purchase their own premises just a few doors down. This location will be used for the wholesale production of gelato and gelato cakes.

This is a big move even for those with long-standing experience in gelato – Roberto is a former partner of the long-established and popular Mieles of Lossiemouth.

A runaway success

In their short time since opening, Mieles Gelateria has been incredibly successful. They’ve already won an Inverness Business Improvement District Award and had lots of local press coverage. The company has even linked up with another local business too – striking an agreement with local bar The Den, who now serve their gin-based sorbets.

Success has come so quickly that the company has been forced to turn down a number of wholesale supply orders. These new premises will allow them to expand their capacity, fulfil those kinds of wholesale orders, and expand their client base.

Quick growth

As they prepare the new premises to be operational, the company are taking the next steps to help them grow the business smoothly. They have already taken on some additional staff to help cope with the added demand over the summer period and then once the wholesale business kicks off.

Here at Clydesdale Bank, we are delighted to be working with Mieles Gelateria to help them grow.
