Business Banking Insights: The UK's Rural Economy

< back to all business news articles

In the latest edition of the Business Banking Insights, we’re honing in on the UK's rural economy. We take a closer look at the agricultural sector, which serves as the backbone of Britain’s rural communities and connects with a broad range of other key industries including logistics, manufacturing and so many others. This edition investigates the future of the sector through the eyes of the businesses that are shaping it and the experts following its development, as well as reaffirming our commitment to supporting agriculture for the long term.

The latest challenges and opportunities facing businesses

As a testament to this support, CYBG recently welcomed a new head of agriculture, Brian Richardson, to broaden our expertise and help the UK’s rural businesses grow and thrive. Brian gives his view on the unique challenges facing British agriculture and why he is taking on the position at a time of great change for the sector.

We also profile the success of some of our agri-based customers including Carr’s PLC, an Agri engineering business based out of Cumbria who have been a customer since the 1800s, Ridgeview, a company at the forefront of English sparkling wine production for over 20 years and Whirlwind Renewables, a successful company driving major Wind-farm projects.

This edition also features a video case study from a long established soft fruit and swede producer with a rich heritage - Stewarts of Tayside, who shared with us how the bank helped them to drive their business forward.
