Discover your mortgage potential in less than 10 minutes

Request an Agreement in Principle (opens in a new window)

Got a mortgage with us already? Let's see what you could borrow

A mortgage Agreement in Principle is the first step towards your mortgage. It provides you with an indication of whether we could lend you the amount you need to borrow.

It only takes around 10 minutes to complete the form and get a result. We’ll ask about your income and regular spending. We will undertake a soft credit search which has no impact on your credit file.

The information you provide will allow us to, in principle, agree to the amount you could borrow. If you then decide to apply for one of our mortgages, we’ll ask you to provide more detailed information about your circumstances.

An Agreement in Principle doesn’t guarantee you will be successful in a mortgage application, but it can give you an idea of how much we may be able to lend.

Please note we currently cannot provide an Agreement in Principle for interest only or buy to let mortgages. For more information on interest only or buy to let mortgages, contact us on 0800 022 4313. (Monday-Friday 9am-5pm).

You can apply if:

  • You've got a mortgage with us already
  • It's for a UK residential property (excluding Northern Ireland)
  • You only use sterling income or assets to repay the mortgage
  • You've paid all recent bills on time and never had a house repossessed
  • You've not been bankrupt, had a debt management plan, county court judgement or a large or unsatisfied default on a loan in the last 6 years
  • You have the permission of joint applicants to enter their details

Start an Agreement in Principle (opens in a new window)

Once you’ve got an Agreement in Principle, you can choose to start your mortgage application online with Clydesdale Bank, if eligible.

All applications are subject to status and lending criteria. A final lending decision will be based on assessment of how much you could reasonably afford, your individual circumstances, your credit score and the suitability of your property for security of your mortgage amount.

Your home may be repossessed if you do not keep up repayments on your mortgage

If you already have an Agreement in Principle or would like to speak to one of our mortgage advisers call us on 0800 022 4313.
