Transferring funds

Your funds will be available immediately if transferring funds from another account you have with us via mobile, internet or telephone banking or by paying in cash over the counter in branch. If you are transferring funds from another financial institution this will usually happen immediately, however, in some cases it can take longer, so please allow time for the funds to be processed into your account, prior to 3pm.

Scheduled payments

If making a future dated payment which falls on a non-business day i.e. weekend or bank holiday, please be aware that the payment will be processed on the next business day. It is important that you enter the correct destination details for any payment that you are making, otherwise the funds may be paid into the wrong account and it may not be possible to recover the funds from the unintended recipient.

Avoid Unarranged Overdraft Fees

If you ask us to make a payment via Standing Order, Direct Debit, cheque or future dated payments (including funds transfers and bill payments through internet banking), you must ensure that you have sufficient cleared funds in your account on the date on which the payment is due to be made or that the payment is covered by an arranged overdraft you have with us.

You have until 3pm on the day a payment is due to pay in enough cleared funds to meet that payment. However, where future dated bill payments and funds transfers have been set up by telephone banking, you must have cleared funds available to meet those payments by 5am on the day they are due to be paid.

Faster Payments

As a Clydesdale Bank customer you are able to receive and send Faster Payments into and from your account*. This allows much quicker telephone, mobile, internet and Standing Order payments between your account and other banks and building societies.

  • Payments can normally be made 24 hours a day, seven days a week
  • Payments will normally reach the beneficiary account immediately, however, in some cases, it can take longer, but in any case, should arrive no later than the end of the next business day.
  • Payments can be made via mobile, internet banking and telephone banking in accordance with the payment limits set
  • Internet banking limit up to £30,000**
  • Telephone banking limit £5,000**

* Payments will only be processed through the Faster Payments Service if both the bank / building society sending and receiving the payment are participants of the scheme.

** Each bank or building society has its own limits for Faster Payments which can vary from time to time. So, if you need to make a payment over the limit, or if you need to guarantee same day payment, you should consider using CHAPS (fee applicable, please contact your branch or relationship manager).
